Creating Annotated Bibliography

Students are required to write annotated bibliography as part of their homework. Many students do not know how to create an interesting annotated bibliography because of various things. They do not understand what an annotated bibliography is and how the annotated bibliography is written. This has affected their academic performance as they get low grades. Students can create an interesting bibliography by following the steps below.
First, students should select a topic for the annotated bibliography. The topic selected should be relevant to the course they are pursuing.  Instructors give students a list containing different topics where they can select one.   In this case, students are required to select the topic they feel is most suitable for them.  In addition, students can select their own topics.  The topic selected should be easy to write and precise. The topic should not be too wide or narrow as it can affect the quality of the annotated bibliography.  The topic also should have sufficient information to write the annoated bibliography. Some students select topics that have no enough information and this hinders them from completing their assignments. The topics selected should be recent and you should be many studies that have been carried out before on the same.

Second, students should look for sources that they will use when writing the annotated bibliography. They should identify a wide range of sources depending on the instructions the instructor has given. Some instructors require students to use articles when writing the assignments and others books. In addition, some tutors require students to use both books and articles.  Hence, students should have the sources needed to write the annotated bibliography. The number of sources also differs.  Students can be asked to use 10, 15 or 5 sources when writing the assignments.  Searching for the sources is also hard for many students. A number of students do not know where to get the sources and this affects the quality of the assignments. Students should use database3s located on the internet to search for the sources they want to use.  Also, universities have libraries where students can get articles and books.  Students can access the libraries online using their usernames and passwords. Students should be able to search for sources from the databases as some databases are complicated. They should use a vast range of phrases when searching for the material. They should develop the phrases according to the topic. This will ensure the annotated bibliography is professionally written and students get good grades.

Third, students should review the sources they have selected to determine whether they are relevant to the topic selected or not. They should identify sources that are related to what they want to write about and then use them to write the annotated bibliography.  The fourth step in writing an annotated bibliography is writing the citations for each source and then giving a brief summary of the content.  The length of the summary depends on the instructions the instructor has given. Some instructors require students to include a line or two when writing the annoated bibliography. Others expect students to include 100 words summary of the sources. Students should adhere to the instructions when writing the annoated bibliography. They should also cite the content of the annoated bibliography to make it valid.
